On the plane ride to Mexico I was listening to “The One Two Three of God.” I got about 30 minutes into it and was overwhelmed (again) with the idea of how important having experiences is. It’s one thing to explore the concept of the interconnectedness of all things and it’s another thing to have the feeling, an actual felt sense of interconnectedness. I thought about all of these higher states of being I’ve read about and the actual experiences I’ve had with them.
I thought about how amazing it would be to maintain some of those states constantly. Similar to how I find myself holding a state of focus while working, how cool would it be to hold a state of no-mind or thoughtless awareness. It would be so cool to be in a constant state of flow with everything from doing dishes to working through a disagreement.
That line of thinking really underscores the importance of meditation to me. It seems like when you can at any time choose to turn down the volume on thinking and turn up the volume on experience or just being, you’ve prepared yourself to enter that state of flow.
